Founders Park isn’t just a playground sitting in the middle of a grassy field. There are things to discover throughout the park, making it a good choice when the family wants a little variety.

Kids can climb and play, older visitors can try the fitness features, families can shoot some hoops or toss a ball around, and everyone can slow down and notice the mining-inspired details incorporated into the park.

I visited Founders Park in Superior, Colorado, and explored it firsthand. I dig the park’s shade and views, but was disappointed by only 1 dog waste station, which wasn’t convenient to the main park area. If it were not for that I would have given the park 5 solid paws!

McKay Lake Park and Open Lands is much more than a walk around the water. Kids can climb, crawl, balance, and create their own adventures in the imaginative nature play area, while bike riders can explore progressive dirt jumps, a pump track, and skill-building loops. Add in the scenic lake trail, fishing, wildlife watching, picnic areas, and peaceful water views, and you have a destination where active play and quiet time outdoors fit naturally into the same visit.

Ride the four-acre bike park featuring three progressive dirt-jump lines, an intermediate pump track, and skill-building loops for different experience levels. It’s a fun place for riders to practice balance, control, and confidence.

Fishing & Paddlecraft

Fish from the shoreline using artificial flies or lures. Largemouth bass must be released immediately, and anglers age 16 or older need a valid Colorado fishing license. Kayaks and canoes are allowed with an approved City of Westminster special-use permit.
